Meet Me at the Baptistry
The film is for anyone who has ever been in a relationship or who has lived through their 20's. It’s an honest, real depiction of a millennial relationship that people can see themselves in or definitely know a Gwen and Rowan. It's raw in the same way that Sally Rooney's "Normal People" is, but we explore the relationship in a style that's reminiscent of 90’s classic "Before Sunrise". The film has a clear European feel as the audience is taken to Tuscany, but the banter and humour is naturally Kiwi. At its core the film is about holding on to the things that make us feel safe and having the courage to let them go. Winner — Best Indie Feature, Milan International Film Festival Industry 2024.
We were very much inspired by the Duplass brothers' early approach to filmmaking. So, with a skeleton crew of four (included the two leads) we shot majority of the film across 12 days in Tuscany in 2022. By being completely independent, we managed to shoot in the most incredible locations and pulled off what would never have been possible if we had money behind us. We finished post-production in New Zealand at the end of 2024.
